BROWSER BASICS:

Custom Fitting Your Browser
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to clothes, hairstyles and music. Itıs no different when it comes to Internet web browsers ... one size does not fit all. Both Microsoft, through their Internet Explorer browser, and Netscape, via their Navigator browser, provide a multitude of customization options allowing individual users to not only alter the look of their browser's window but the content of the window as well.
Choose Your Own Start Page
When you first launch your browser to go online each day, the first page to show up in the window frame of your browser is called your "Start Page." A start page was set-up for you as a default setting by either your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the browser software developer when you first received your browser software. If your start page is currently not the home page of your Internet Service Provider, it is highly recommended that you change the setting to this URL (web address). Your ISP utilizes its home page to announce virus alerts, down times for maintenance periods, network status reports, etc. This information is important to know when you first get online each time.
Customizing Your "Toolbox"
The toolbar of your web browser allows you to find web documents more easily by using the "Favorites" button, the "History" button, the "Back" button, etc. Some people utilize many of the buttons available on the toolbar. Others only need a few. Buttons can be easily added and deleted from your toolbar so that only the ones you frequently use will appear. Buttons can also be rearranged so that they are displayed in the order of your preference within the toolbar. The buttons on your toolbar can even be resized to appear smaller than the default setting, thus providing additional viewing space within the browser's window. Are you ready to customize your web browser to your own specifications? Begin by reviewing the step-by-step instructions on the next page. The short tutorials provide details on creating a new start page as well as adding, deleting, resizing and moving buttons within your browser's toolbar.
