Similar to emoticons, the use of abbreviations or acronyms can also be used to help convey meaning to your messages. A word of caution, however: If you use abbreviations or acronyms, be sure your reader already knows what they mean. If you're unsure, use the abbreviation or acronym with an explanation immediately behind it.
